The
collection presented here demonstrates how some of
our past is saved. It also shows how seemingly ordinary magazine
covers take on greater meaning when examined as part of a
larger story.
Many of the covers were collected
in the summer of 1942 by Marguerite Jacquette Storm (18921976),
who wrote to friends across the country asking for their flag
magazines. Eventually she accumulated more than 150 publications.
After removing the cover, Storm donated the rest of each magazine
to wartime paper drives. Peter Gwillim Kreitler, who had been
collecting magazines from the July 1942 campaign for more
than ten years, acquired Storms covers in 1999.
