By lending their powerful support to the war effort,
American magazines ensured their own survival. Yet despite its
success, the flag-cover campaign of July 1942 was not repeated.
The Treasury Department requested another coordinated endeavor
for 1943, but the National Publishers Association decided participation
should be voluntary. Individual magazines continued to feature
the flag throughout the war, but not in a unified campaign. |
