The Jack Seifert Collection of Woody Herman Materials

Like fellow bandleader Duke Ellington, whose papers are also held in the Archives Center, Herman's ensembles were known for featuring exemplary soloists such as saxophonist Stan Getz. Herman's ensembles also played musical arrangements by influential artists such as Ralph Burns. Like Ellington, Herman was able to continue a fruitful recording and performing career long after the heyday of the Big Bands.
