    Most of the sheets date between 1918-1930. Some are songs with "blues" as an emotional state, rather than as a musical genre.     G, Blues, instrumental, 1912-1963:

    Most of the sheets date from 1915-1920 and all are solo piano arrangements. A variety of composers are present including "Count" Basie, Clarence Williams, and J. Tim Brymn. (34 items)

    H, Blues, professional copy, 1916-1957:

    Professional copy has no cover illustration. (31 items)

    I, Blues, Acuff-Rose professional copy, 1948-1969:

    Acuff-Rose publishing company is known primarily for its country music offerings. (40 items)

    J, Afro-American Women Blues Singers, 1920-1923:

    Most of the sheets feature the singer on the cover. The singers include Alberta Hunter, Bessie Smith, Clara Smith, and Mamie Smith. Three songs are by Lovie Austin. (8 items)

    K, Blues, Ensembles on the Cover, 1916-1927:

    These sheets have photographs of early jazz bands on the cover, both well known and not-so-well-known groups. Included are Earl Fuller and his Novelty Orchestra, the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Paul Whiteman, and Eubie Blake and his "Shuffle Along" Orchestra. (24 items)

    The folios are collections of early jazz blues and "bluesy" Tin Pan Alley songs. Also included are 1944 folios of Louis Jordan songs, Jimmy Rushing Sings the Blues (ca. 1945), and The Paramount Book of Blues (ca. 1927) which features Paramount recording artists such as Blind Lemon Jefferson, "Ma" Rainey, Blind Blake, Charlie Jackson, etc. See also folder 3.7 P.     Most of the sheets date from 1918-1925. These are songs about jazz and should not be thought to comprise the DeVincent holdings of jazz music. Most jazz items can be retrieved by the name of performer, bandleader, or composer. Many Afro-American jazz musicians are in subseries 3.8. See also the appendix in this booklet, "Jazz Finding Aid."     P, Instrumental Folios, 1935-1963:

    Both teaching aids and collections of jazz, swing, and blues are included. Most of the folios are for solo piano, but there is one for accordion and one for B flat Clarinet. One folio is by Eddie Heywood and one by Art Tatum. See also the DeVincent category for "novelty piano." (10 items)

    Q, Piano Folios, Melrose Music Corp., 1950-1960:

    All of the folios--Dixieland folios of "Blues, Stomps and Ragtime"--are published by the Melrose Music Corp. For more on the Melrose Brothers see folder 3.8 VV. (4 items)

    R, Boogie Woogie Sheet Music, ca. 1940-1949:

    All items are written for solo piano. Several compositions are by Lionel Hampton; one is by Count Basie. (34 items)
