Scope and Content

This collection contains TV soap opera scripts acquired by the Division of Community Life as part of the History of Entertainment Collection. It includes the 1982 script from the first episode of "Capitol," autographed by the cast and the projected story line for "As the World Turns" for 1957. Also included are three 16mm reels from "As the World Turns," three 16mm reels labeled "Marshall Islands," and a video tape for "Search for Tomorrow" (1st episode).

Artifacts in the Division of Community Life include a miniature carousel and gold pocket watch from the "Edge of Night," an apron, scissors and black straw mourning hat from "Search for Tomorrow," a coffee pot and housecoat from "The Guiding Light," and an apron, a globe and a "thank you" card from "As the World Turns." Also included are six posters from "Soap Opera Festivals" in several cities.
