John Cranch Collection
Gift of Charlotte D. Cranch, 1896

Many of the prints Cranch purchased in Italy were issued in the 17th and 18th centuries from plates engraved a century or more before. To meet the continuing demand for these images, publishers reworked and printed old plates.
