Building a National Collection
150 Years of Print Collecting at the Smithsonian

Walter Dubois Richards, 1907-2006
Woodcutters
Linoleum cut, 1935
Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Patton, 1971

The collection of prints given by the Pattons includes a number of linoleum cuts, a simple relief process popular during the 1930s. Richards's print was produced for the Cleveland Print Makers Print-A-Month-Club, an organization devoted to keeping the print market alive during the lean years of the Great Depression.
